What is Pay-As-You-Go?
Pay-As-You-Go is a pay before consumption program and an alternative to traditional monthly billing that allows you to determine how much and how often you pay. It also provides useful energy data that can be monitored so that you can adjust your usage to your budget.
How the program works
Pay-As-You-Go is optional — new or existing residential customers may choose to participate. Applicable fees must be paid prior to commencement of service. Existing customers with account balances may pay either the existing balance or utilize a debt recovery mechanism. Customers with Gibson EMC heat pump or water heater loans are not eligible.
Pay as you use
With Pay-As-You-Go you pay for electricity in advance, and as you use electricity, your credit balance decreases. You may pay when you want and in amounts that you choose. We encourage minimum payment amounts of at least $40. Payments can be made at any Gibson EMC customer service center, over the phone with a credit card or online. Payments made by phone or online can be done 24 hours a day.
Should your Pay-As-You-Go account reach a debit balance, your electricity automatically disconnects — that’s why it’s important for you to closely monitor your account. Pay-As-You-Go customers do not receive monthly statements.
The power of information
This program allows you to track account balances in one of two ways, through e-mail notification or with an In-Home Display unit (IHD). The IHD plugs into any electrical outlet and offers easy-to-read data that is updated daily. The IHD features an alarm that activates if your balance decreases to a credit amount sufficient for just four days or fewer of power. You also can get account information by contacting any Gibson EMC customer service center.
Fees and charges
Any and all existing fees, rates and charges continue to apply, including existing applicable energy changes and customer charges. Energy usage plus pro-rata monthly fees apply. Deposit will be returned on all In-Home Display (IHD) devices and will be held until unit is returned in good working order. A daily fee of $0.05 per day will be charged for the IHD, if customer ops for IHD notification. Gibson EMC also offers customers the option to receive their account balance by e-mail, text message, or the automated customer service system.
