Corporate Profile
Business Structure and Mission
Gibson Electric Membership Corporation is a nonprofit, member-owned and democratically controlled electric cooperative. Our mission is to provide members (all those who purchase electricity from Gibson EMC) with safe and reliable electric service at an affordable price.
Our Beginnings
Gibson EMC was formed in 1936 by people in this area who had been told it would be too costly to extend electric lines and provide service to the rural areas. These determined men and women joined together and started their own electric cooperative.
Service Area and Membership
Today, Gibson EMC serves 35,000 members over 2,900 miles of line in eight Northwest Tennessee counties (Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison and Obion).

Rates
Gibson EMC purchases power from the Tennessee Valley Authority. About 80 cents of every dollar Gibson EMC collects from its customer-owners goes to TVA for power costs. Within that amount is a power cost adjustment charge (PCA). The PCA includes the cost of fuel for generation (coal, nuclear and natural gas) and the cost of power purchased on the open market. The PCA also collects costs associated with any load diversity. The PCA will not generate additional revenue for Gibson EMC.
