Scheduling Your Electric Service for Construction or Renovation

When building or renovating, remember to include Gibson Electric Membership Corporation in your planning process.  We want to provide you with electric service when you need it.

Gibson EMC Requirements

bullet

Please notify Gibson EMC 30 days prior to electricity being needed in order to obtain underground utility clearance and complete engineering and construction work.

bullet

We must obtain the following billing information:

Name                           Social security number             Telephone number

Mailing address             Credit information

bullet

We must obtain the following location information:

911 address             Directions to the site

bullet

The site must be marked to show where the new construction will stand.  Manufactured homes should be onsite.

Once Gibson EMC has the above information, our field engineer will visit the job site within five working days.  Should more information be needed, the field engineer will contact you.  Once engineering is complete, a letter will be sent advising you of any construction charges and available methods of payment.

 State Requirements

bullet

State law requires that a sewer permit must be obtained from either the health department or

local city hall.  You must present this sewer permit at Gibson EMC when purchasing your electrical permit.

bullet

Electrical permits must be purchased at the Gibson EMC Customer Service Center serving the area where construction is located.  Payment may be made by cash, check or money order,  with checks or money orders made payable to Gibson EMC.  A copy of the electrical permit should be placed in the meter base for the state electrical inspector.

bullet

Please call Tennessee One Call (800-351-1111) 72 hours prior to doing any excavation so that

all underground utilities can be located and marked.  Tennessee One Call notifications for excavation performed by Gibson EMC will be handled by our employees.

bullet

There must be an inspection by a State electrical inspector.  (Rough-in -- no insulation or wall covering installed. Final -- all panel covers, face covers, etc., installed.)

 When Your Wiring is Complete

bullet

Call Gibson EMC to schedule an inspection by a State electrical inspector.

bullet

Once final inspection is passed and arrangements are made for payment of charges, Gibson EMC will schedule your meter to be set.

bullet

If wiring does not pass inspection, you are required by law to purchase another permit and have the wiring re-inspected.
